The Mentalist on CBS

This is one of the new shows I was looking forward to checking out. I thought it might be fun to watch, but my concern was how they’re going to keep the cleverness rolling week after week. It aired on Tuesday night at 9. My thoughts on the show (and minor spoilers) are after the jump.

My basic impressions were positive for the most part. I did enjoy watching it; it has a decent pace and the dialogue is quick. I like most of the actors. I also like the lighting…it’s a pretty show. A few things did wear thin, however. For example the show is somewhat based on hunting down a serial killer known only as Red John, who leaves a mark at every crime scene: an annoying happy face drawn with the blood of his victims. I have seen only one episode and I’m tired of this happy face already. Also, the main character’s past and motivation for helping the police solve crimes is rather obvious. He used to be a frivolous man, using his talents to make money as a psychic until his family is murdered by Red John and this changes everything for him.

Basically, this show is a lot like CSI in the storytelling and in the eye candy. It’s fun and I’m going to keep watching, see how it goes. Did anyone else watch? Thoughts?

It’s on the DVR to watch… weird thing: the new TV season starts and I’m not in the mood to watch TV at all lately!
