Hurley and Libby

In the alterna-timeline, Desmond is looking people up from the Flight 815 manifest in order to “show them” what he and Daniel and Charlie have discovered…a sort of memory of another life. This week it was Hurley’s turn; to make a long story short, Desmond convinces Hurley to investigate a chance meeting with a girl from a mental home.

On the island, Hurley is mourning Libby and wondering why she doesn’t visit him as so many of the dead do. In his alternative reality, it’s Libby who has “remembered” her alternative life with Hurley, and up until now that belief has made her feel as though she’s crazy. Once they kiss, Hurley remembers her, too. Desmond, watching them from his car, happy and satisfied, goes off on his next (self-appointed, I’m assuming?) mission…he runs down John Locke in the street with his car, wheelchair and all.

In present island time, Iliana pulls an Arzt and blows herself up with dynamite from the Black Rock. Ghost Michael speaks to Hurley and tells him to prevent the group from destroying the Aljira plane, which he does by causing the entire Black Rock to explode. Next, Hurley fulfills the next step of Michael’s instructions, which were to go and see notLocke, so they do. Not suprisingly, notLocke is expecting them. In the meantime, notLocke pays a visit to Desmond, whom Sayid kidnapped from Widmore. NotLocke and Desmond go for a walk to a well, and have a conversation about the magnetic energy below the surface. Suddenly he grabs Desmond by the neck and throws him down into the well. I wasn’t expecting that, but then again I do keep forgetting that Locke is the Man in Black.

Okay, so…who’s the kid? Speculations?

Spirit of the island is my guess. Something even older than Jacob and Flocke, perhaps toying with them the way they’re toying with the Flight 815ers.

Wasn’t looking forward to this episode, but I turned out to be pleasantly surprised.

I’m trying to figure out why alt-Desmond ran over alt-Locke. I figure it has to be more than getting revenge for sending him down the well. Poor Iliana. Not surprsied she bought the farm, but I wasn’t expecting her to go like that.

Good epsiode. I can’t believe this ride is almost over.

I think Desmond ran over Locke in the same spirit that Charlie ran Desmond’s car into the drink. Near death experiences are a trigger for the alt-memories. Does that make sense? I don’t think it was a revenge thing. Desmond knows what’s what and who’s who, if you know what I mean.

I loved the prolonged shot of Jack when he saw notLocke for the first time. Last time Jack saw Locke, he was dead in a coffin.

I had the thought that the boy was Jacob, growing quickly into adult-hood after being killed. The first time notLocke saw a strange kid, it was a younger kid and it WAS after Jacob had been killed. And there’s something about the way the MIB refuses to acknowledge him. I don’t know. It’s at best a half-theory right now.

My original theory was that the kid is Aaron and he is the one destined to take over for Jacob (and is time-traveling around as a kid). However, the reborn Jacob is an even better theory.

I thought Des ran down Locke in the alter-verse so that Locke — the real Locke — would somehow come back into existence in the Island-verse. But that’s a total wacky guess.

Glad we got another definitive answer to a mystery, in this case the source of the whispers we’ve heard on many occasions. Sad and spooky.

Ok, can I just say I thought the explanation of the whispers in the jungle was handled so poorly I just had to laugh. Such a quick, blatant and blah way to address something people have been speculating for soooo long. Oh well.

I agree with the notion that AltDesmond hit AltJohn with his car to bring him close enough to death to trigger memories/feelings. I think we’re to tricked into thinking it was revenge, considering we just got out of a scene where NotLocke throws Desmond down the well. I too didn’t expect that at all!

When Iliana showed us the TNT in her bag I thought, isn’t that really unstable to be handling it like that? but then totally DID NOT expect her to blow up!

As to who the kid is, I agree with both guesses above – either Aaron (otherwise why make him so important in the first place?) or young Jacob (why would NotLocke hate him so?), but who knows.

Sun and Jin reunion … they’re really stretching that one out.

Greater Czarina – sorry, by the time I got around to posting my bit, you had already posted yours but I hadn’t read it yet – hope my post doesn’t sound snooty re: the whispers!

I knew Illana would bite it at the hands of dynamite and Desmond would be thrown down the well, but I was still shocked when both incidents happened.

I was happy with this episode, I felt it moved faster and covered more ground. I am hoping that this episode signifies the show picking up some steam before the finale. Of course, I’m always pleased when Desmond is involved. :)

I think the whole answering the question about the whispers was done that way on purpose. Sort of a tongue in cheek and quick to the point way for all of the online theorists from the writers.
I love the whole Desmond side of this and am kind of done with the whole Jacob/Man in Black thing.

I thought Desmond might have run over Locke to get him and Jack together (again).

Kyle-I thought the same exact thing.

I also wanted to see if anyone else thought that maybe Michael was not Michael but actually Flock. Any thought…..I need all the help I can get.

I thought the same thing about Michael being Flock. Wasn’t there a point made that he shows up as dead people? e.g Jack’s dad? The entire time I thought, Hurley, no….it’s Flock.
I’m really, really going to miss this show.

I have to say I’m loving island Hurley this season, as his confidence grows. It’s really kinda awesome. And to see Jack give up control and put his faith in Hurley is also kinda awesome.

I had been thinking that the kid was maybe the Man in Black himself, as a kid, perhaps before he became the Smoke Monster or started this competition with Jacob or whatever, and shows up to remind MIB of who he was. I dunno, just a theory obviously.
