Coffee, Tea, or Alternate Universe?

Last Supper

On the one hand we have our cast in the present day, realizing that blowing up the bomb didn’t work and Juliet was going to die and Sawyer was all “I WILL KILL YOU!” while Hurley was told by a recently murdered Jacob to get Sayid to the temple and that Jin would help him.

On the other hand we have Flight 815 experiencing a mostly uneventful journey. Hi Desmond! And then he was gone. There were a few other differences as well, such as Boone travelling alone, Hurley stating that nothing bad ever happens to him. Charlie, instead of getting high in the toilet, ended up choking on his bag o’ drugs which got him saved by Jack and arrested by the Po-Po.

Island reality: Sawyer makes it to the bottom of the hatch, Juliet is almost dead, and she told him that she did indeed set off the bomb. Then she died before she could give him some extremely important information. Sawyer and Miles bury her, Miles reads her at Sawyer’s insistence and says simply, “It worked. It worked.”

So…that brings us to Happy Flight 815 reality: Things are not as expected. Sun refuses to help Jin out at customs. Jack’s dad’s body goes totally missing, Kate escapes from the marshall by getting into a cab with Claire (I know!) and getting away.

I’m still digesting and trying to find the cohesiveness. What did ya’lls think? Oh! And don’t forget the temple people drowned Sayid in the temple spring and then he got alive again after. And John Locke’s animated body, AKA the smoke monster, wants to go HOME.

What I liked best about this episode was seeing all the old-school Losties — Boone, Arnst, Rose & Bernard, Cindy, etc. No Tailies, though. Are we going to pretend that never happened?

I’m confused as ever. And, Bernard was a Tailie so they did include at least one so far.

Oh, right, I forgot he was in the bathroom during the crash. I was hoping to see Libby. :)

I think the most interesting part of the episode was the fact that Desmond was on the plane. Overall a good episode – even if it did introduce even more questions. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

The biggest omission for me was No Walt and Micheal as they were so key to what happened on the island for the first season. Also, that the Island appears to be intact and completely (and potentially recently?) submerged in the alternate timeline.

Evil Fake John Locke is awesomely evil. Who ever could be more villainous than Ben?

Hurting Sawyer and Despondent Jack is something I can get behind.

I realize, though, that I’m like the real John Locke — I don’t like things that happen off the island (unless it has to do with Desmond or Faraday). Also, I was so looking forward to Jin and Sun both speaking english at the same time and getting back together. It’s so sad to see them back in their formerly broken relationship.

That’s what I got out of the alternate timeline — a lot of sadness. Except for Hurley, who, while lucky, seems oblivious and far less interesting.

I should’ve finished my sentence…that the Island appears to be intact…yadda yadda yadda…is interesting!

I am wondering if it is really Sayid or if Jacob’s spirit is possessing him like smoke monster is Locke. Also still have no idea which reality is the real one. Thought it was a bit of a stereotype that they introduced this mysterious Japanese character who spends his time trimming bonsai trees. Who is he anyway? Did he take over after Ben left the island? And how did they not know who the Losties were – weren’t half of them in the Others’ camp for a while?

I’m still hiding behind the sofa after that Glare of EEEEEEvil from Fake John.

Mindy, so true… that was a seriously menacing face!

I guess the smoke monster being Jacob’s arch enemy explains why we first found that circle of sand/dust around the cabin. Just a little puzzle piece that clicked for me last night. I think they showed up the dust was protection, but it just added an extra tidbit of info. Oh smokey, you are a tricky one!

Maybe Sayid is now Jacob, as Genevieve suggests. That would be interesting…

Genevieve — that’s an interesting theory about Sayid/Jacob. I like it.

I’m just now reading the Lindelof/Cuse interview and they say both realities are real. – http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/02.....n-carlton/

And, yes, I’m curious about yet another group of people that we haven’t met on the Island even if they do feature Deadwood’s Sol Star (are we too far away from the end of the series to be excited for Deadwood stunt casting?). I realize we’ve only glimpsed the temple once, and that was last season, and it didn’t end well for the Frenchmen (which suggests the Temple isn’t the saving grace our fair LOSTies think it is) but it feels weird. Although, with the two kids serving food, maybe that finally explains the dirty feet and the teddy bear (which we still don’t have answers for, right?).

Another totally random thought – the reference to Richard being in chains and somewhere I remember the producers saying it was purposeful that he looked like he had kohl rimmed eyes and the architecture of the statue and the temple – was Richard an Egyptian slave? As in the ones who built the pyramids?

Gen, I think you’d be fun to watch Lost with. :) Just sayin.

I was completely mouth agape when Richard was killed so swiftly. I hope he somehow survives, but I think he’s a goner.

Although I am really interested in the doors they opened up story-wise, I was a little under whelmed with the writing. The episode just seemed a little blah. Usually their season openers are pretty fantastic but this one … maybe it was the gazillion commercial breaks, but the pacing was off for me. That being said, it was 2 hours, so hopefully once they return to the 1 hour format the pacing will be corrected. Again, not to say this episode was bad, because it wasn’t. Maybe I was expecting too much.

I agree with Genevieve about the Japanese guy being a bit too stereotypical (long flowy hair and beard, snipping at bonsai-like plants while deep in thought) and pretty comical, not in a good way. Not sure how I feel about this new group on the whole, but I’ll go along with it for now. And yeah, a hippie Sol!

What was the point of Juliet telling Sawyer she has something really important to tell him, then dies before she can, then Sawyer buries her with Miles, only after that makes Miles to read her dead thoughts, and FINALLY we find out “it worked”? Perhaps to make it clear she truly is dead? I just found it silly and a big time-waster. I mean, sure it was a nice, romantic moment between Juliet and Sawyer (and he put in a really nice emotional performance there), but couldn’t she have said it and then died in his arms? I know, nitpicky, but it just is one example of the weak writing and pacing for me.

I also think Sayid’s body will house Jacob. That seems about right, considering John was dead when he arrived on the island but then possessed by MIB, but one never knows with this show.

I like the idea of showing us this new, corrected universe where Oceanic arrives alive … but things are clearly askew. Cool little things like seeing Desmond on the plane and then disappearing (he is their Constant, of course), Christian’s missing body and coffin, Jack telling John nothing is irreparable, and Charlie saying “I should have died” was pretty creepy …

I am looking forward to next week :)

I found it interesting that Desmond appeared just as they were flying over the sunken Island.

I didn’t think Juliet could know to tell Sawyer that it worked until she was dead.

I was hooked from the moment the show opened on the plane and that last bit of turbulence passed by without incident. I love a good alternate universe storyline. Picking out what’s different, all the little details, is always fun, when handled well. They really did an excellent job with Locke especially in the altered reality. Up until the point that they were literally lifting him into his wheelchair, I was expecting him to stand up. They set it up so well for a big, shocking reveal of him standing up (in other words, dropping obvious hints that he was, in fact, still without the use of his legs), that it was a bigger shock that he didn’t. Well done, I thought.

I just remembered this. What was up with the little cut Jack found on his neck when he went to the washroom on the plane? Had he cut himself shaving that morning or is it something more sinister? Also, it seemed like he was having some residual memories or something at first, but the farther he got from the the point the plane should have exploded, they dwindled. Might there end up being some kind of reality crossover? So my head can explode completely?

    Also…DHARMA SHARK!

Jeremy, I do think at some point these realities are going intersect and my head might pop clean off.

Did you guys notice when Miles & Hurley were sitting near Sayid’s body being all sad, Miles suddenly looked at the body and kind of flinched? What did it say to him?

  20. 20.   Rain said  ( Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at 2:10 pm )

Re: Miles flinching: I took it to mean he was trying to get a read on the dead Sayid, but wasn’t getting anything, so he knew that Sayid wasn’t actually dead….

That also plays into why the Juliet thing played out the way it did. He was able to hear the dead Juliet, which kind of reminds us that’s his thang, setting it up so he can read dead Sayid, but voila, he can’t. Sayid’s alive.

  21. 21.   Rain said  ( Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at 2:13 pm )

Also, I think Juliet being in the rubble of the Swan station had something to do with her knowing it worked. Like, her timeline was totally different from theirs BECAUSE it worked. Or something like that. If I think about it too hard, I get a migraine!

When Sawyer was holding Juliet at her final moments….she said something about getting coffee. This makes me think that she was in another time too….anyone????

  23. 23.   Rain said  ( Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at 2:45 pm )

Yeah, I wondered the same thing about the coffee. But I also thought it might have been in reference to some conversation they’d had in a past episode that I had just totally forgotten about, which is understandable since it’s been NINE MONTHS since I last watched it!

I kind of thought the coffee reference was something that’ll come up in the alternate LAX timeline when (if?) Sawyer and Juliet meet there.

My first thought was that Smokey jumped from Locke to Sayid. But he isn’t really in Locke’s body (as evidenced by Locke’s corpse) he just took the form of Locke. And it looks like it’s really Sayid we saw at the end. So I’m not writing it off, but I’m not convinced of it.

Is Richard dead? I thought Smokey/Locke just kung fu-ed him. But maybe I missed that. I’m still hoping Rousseau isn’t dead, even though I know she is.

All in all, I enjoyed it, but seriously, does this show have more commercials than other shows or does it just seem that way?

We watched the previous season finale last week and discussed a couple of things, what ifs, etc. One thing I thought about is that Ol’ Smokey seemed to take a liking to Locke right from the beginning. Locke had faced the smoke monster, experienced something very meaningful that we weren’t privy to, and lived to tell about it. He also felt specifically drawn to the island and instantly realized the skills he only imagined he had when he wanted to go on that Australian trip. So, I started thinking that perhaps Smokey was grooming Locke in order to position itself to be able to regain control of whatever the island is all about.

I was sucked right back in and I love that they are continuing to reveal things in every episode. Tonight we learned:

    1. This group of “other Others” (or would they be other other Others?) are the ones responsible for the whispers we heard before someone would disappear.

    2. The fate of Tailie/stewardess-whose-name-I-fogot, who was snatched during Ana Lucia and company’s trek to meet up with the beach survivors, leading Ana Lucia to shoot Shannon (the best thing that character ever did).

    3. The Man-In-Black is indeed ol’ Smokey!

    4. The lists that Ben used to receive were indeed from Jacob, letting him know who was “worthy” of being protected. Pretty sure we now know where the kids wound up.

    5. The meaning of the ash circle around the cabin and elsewhere (though for those familiar with the occult, circles of protection are pretty well established).

The creation of an alternate universe was a good surprise and I’m kind of psyched to see where it leads. I’m guessing that at some point, reality will only continue for one version of each Lostie, while their AU personna dies, leaving us in the end with some living the lives they would have sans island and others living out their island lives.

You may be dazzled when facing so many kinds of hair straighteners, because you don’t know which one is better. If you are looking for a perfect hairdo, a good and crystalline hair straightener is best for you. There are perfect options of hair straighteners with perfect features that are available in the market, You can change your hair style at your pleasure even thouth using a cheap ghd.but if you are looking for a reliable, consistent and high temperature heat ceramic hair strengthener, try the Andis hair straightener. Although some people have their own complaints about the product, still it is a great a top of the line flat iron hair straightener which has high performance and dependability.
