I loved it too, and then went on TWOP after the show and saw I am apparently in the minority. I really don’t understand the people who are saying the whole season has sucked and they don’t like the answers that are unfolding and then they keep watching. Really – it’s just TV – if you don’t like it or it isn’t the story you wanted, just stop watching.
Anyway. Also amazed that I haven’t seen any mention anywhere that the boy Jacob was the ghost boy Locke/monster has been seeing on the island. I thought maybe I was wrong, but googled it and it’s definitely the same actor.

Locke/monster has seen both boys, right? Didn’t we see a blonde and a brunette boy on two different episodes?
I was so happy to see Allison Janney!

I liked the episode, but I will admit to being disappointed that we didn’t have some “current day” action. If we only have a few hours left, I want to see what’s going on with Desmond, what the Losties will do next, where Ben is at, etc. It feels like there is an awful lot of story and not much time left to tell it!
I recognized boy-Jacob, too. A question on the Alison Janney character (who I don’t believe was given a name…), to me she appeared the same when the boys were born, as when they were older. Did that character not age, like Richard Alpert? Or did the make-up department take the day off?

She was immortal, no? It was the wine, like she shared with Jacob. And like Jacob later shared with Richard. And it seemed that she could not kill herself, same as Richard.

(Note: I ALWAYS want to know what’s up with Desmond.)
I thought Alison’s line of questions only leading to more questions was quite clever.
Has anyone caught Jimmy Fallon’s parody “Late”? It is so great… and last nights episode…. wow, just wow.

To add some speculation before the finale, I have always kind of thought the island is Atlantis. I think they were speaking Latin in the first scene of this episode (can anyone confirm?), so to add to that theory the island could have originated in the Mediterranean and then turning the wheel to move the island could have moved it to the south Pacific. Also, in the sideways world the island is at the bottom of the ocean (like Atlantis). Does anyone else see the similarities in the mythology?

Gen, you’re not alone in that thought:

Interesting stuff.

Now I’m trying to remember what that book was called and what season it factored in to… “Bad twin” or something with “Twin” in the title.
Also….Hah! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8JBYlNTf-Q

I liked the episode but I did kind of wish there was some present-day action, too, what with so few hours left. None of the questions I really cared about were answered last night, except I guess maybe how did he become a smoke monster.
It was interesting to see Jacob, though. He had so far come across as sort of a wise, confident, and all-knowing leader but from yesterday’s episode, he seemed kind of like a bratty kid with a temper and jealousy issues who didn’t want the responsibility he was given. Reminds me of Jack a little. And I guess it made me a little sympathetic towards the MIB… trying for so long to get off of the island. Poor guy. Quite the perseverance. Interesting that Jacob seems to be able to leave the island whenever he wants.

I liked the episode too but understand why I’m/we’re in the minority.
It was just a good hour of TV.
I don’t expect to have some complete resolution of issues – just along for the ride this season (except for the temple; hated that).

I thought it was a really pivotal issue and answered a lot of questions at the heart of the mythology. Such as:
1. Why do people get pulled to the island?
2. Why were the Others making lists of “good” people and taking children?
3. What is the Smoke Monster and why can’t he leave the island?
4. Why couldn’t Jacob and Smokey kill each other (although no specifics were given, their “mother” told them she made it so and she seemed to have the power to do it)
5. The source of Richard and Jacob’s immortality
6. Who the boys are we keep seeing
7. Who were the skeletons in the cave and what the meaning of the black/white gamepieces with them?
There was more, but suffice it to say I didn’t think it was filler at all.
I also liked that they took the whole Jacob/Esau story from the bible and turned it around (mother instead of father; second son favored over the elder). As for the talk at the beginning, my hubby took latin in school and says nope, that wasn’t it.

What’s the answer to No. 2, GC?
13. bucktowngirl said ( Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:35 am )
I teared up at the end of the episode and I have no idea why. I loved this episode and thought it was really well done. Lots of answers and anytime I get lost (no pun intended) in an episode, I’m happy.
I felt like Mel did; I saw Jacob in a different light and found myself sympathizing and rooting for the MIB.
I’m looking forward to the last few hours, but I’m really going to miss this show, especially the way it makes me think after each and every episode.

Agreed about feeling sympathy for the MIB. Which is weird, because Darlton said they killed off Sun & Jin so we would know for sure that MIB is evil. So why garner sympathy for him? I guess it makes him more interesting?

GC, I do think it’s Latin they’re speaking. I googled. I thought it sounded Latin and “Mihi nomen est Claudia” was the first thing I actually understood. I think it may be conjugated incorrectly, though. I looked up “appellarus” which Alison Janney’s character says to Claudia when she asks her name, and found that the word should be “appellatus” if I understood what I was reading correctly. “Mihi” and “tibi” were used to mean “mine/to me” or “your/to you.”

One of the things that was said by Darlton (love that!) is that no one on Lost is all good or all evil. They held true to that with the MIB. Granted, he is evil now, but he hasn’t always been. Like all the other characters I once hated and now love, they have baggage/history that makes them who they are currently.

I realize you weren’t directing this question to me, Yahtzee, but I think the answer to #2 is that they are looking for Jacob’s replacement, just like Alison Janney was looking for her own. They prefer children or babies so they can keep them “good.”
18. Greater Czarina said ( Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:04 pm )
Yep, Yahtzee, what Vicky said. They snap up all the “potentials,” or good people, and kids are “pure.”

Hey, why did the Dharma food drops stop? How did Widmore find the island again if it had been moved? And Dude, check this out: http://www.buzzfeed.com/foursc.....-dude-1cwk

I rewatched some of the first season this weekend. Remember the comic book and Walt’s ability to “know” things. Did we get answers to that? I know, I may be being picky, but I was wondering if I missed something.
