I Can See for Miles and Miles

Because Head of Security James LaFleur is unavailable at this exact moment in time, Miles becomes part of the Circle of Trust.
Sawyer is on his way back with Kate from taking Child Ben to the Others; in the meantime he radios to Miles to erase the videotape that shows him and Kate with their vans on the perimeter of the Dharma compound. Before Miles has a chance to do this, Horace comes in and explains he needs something important done, something that usually only LaFleur would do. He gives Miles a black bag, instructs him to travel through taboo territory to deliver the bag to Radzinsky, and then to return with whatever Radzinsky gives him, no questions asked. No problem.
Miles does what he’s told and as it turns out, the black bag is a body bag and the package he must return to Horace is a body. Radzinsky tells him he fell in the pit he was digging but Miles thinks he looks like he’s been shot. He starts to ask questions, but Radzinsky yells at him and so Miles decides to leave and ask the dead dude himself. Apparently a filling from inside his teeth was magnetically sucked out at such velocity that it tore out through his head, killing him. Hmmm…powerful magnet…sounds familiar.
When Miles gets back, he’s told to secretly deliver the body to Dr. Chang at the Orchid station. Hurley pesters himself a ride with Miles, saying he’s delivering sandwiches to the crew there, so they should share a van. Miles can’t get rid of him and eventually Hurley figures out he’s riding with a dead body because he can smell it (Hurley was afraid his mayonnaise had spoiled). He asks what happened so Miles tells him. Hurley responds by telling Miles that he can talk to dead people, too…that they visit and chat with him. Miles argues and says that’s now how it works, but Hurley makes fun of him for being jealous that Hurley’s power is better.
When they arrive at the Orchid, Chang is royally pissed that Miles brought Hurley along. Hurley promises he can keep a secret, and Chang threatens to send him to Hydra Island to shovel polar bear poop if he doesn’t keep his word.
While this is going on, we’re also viewing flashbacks into Miles’ past. We learn he’s had the ability to hear the dead since he was a small child when he and his mom were looking for an apartment. He visits his mom on her deathbed years later and demands to know about his father, but she is angry and won’t tell him much. She only reveals that he’s dead, that he never wanted a family, and that his body is someplace Miles will never find it.
As an adult, Miles is making money using his ability to talk to the dead and ends up approached by Naomi who offers him a job working for Widmore…to come to the island, talk to the dead “residing” there and find out about the man whose fault it was. He agrees to do it for the price of $1.6M. Soon after agreeing to this plan, Miles is accosted walking down the street and shoved into a van. These people tell him not to go to the island, that if he sticks with them he can learn about his gift and even learn about his father. He tells them that he no longer cares about his father and that he’s only interested in the money. They toss him out of the van and say he’s chosen the wrong side.
At the Orchid, Miles is asked to wait for Chang, whom Hurley labels a total douche. Miles pipes up and says that the douche is his father. I TOTALLY DID NOT SEE THAT COMING, which I loved! Hurley asks Miles how he knows; Miles replies that his first clue was when he saw him with his mom, who apparently also works for Dharma in 1977. When Chang returns to the van, he asks to be taken to Radzinsky. On the drive, Hurley tries to show Chang and Miles that they have stuff in common to promote some conversation so Miles can get to know Chang. It’s a bit awkward, but Chang seems to get slightly less rigid. When they arrive, he tells them they don’t need to wait for him, he’ll get a ride back with someone else. It’s at this time that Hurley is transfixed on some numbers — The Numbers — the workers are stamping onto a piece of metal, and he realizes they’re in the middle of building The Hatch.
On their way back, they get into an argument which prompts Miles to grab Hurley’s notebook and start reading it. It turns out to be the script for The Empire Strikes Back. Hurley figures that he can save some trouble and send George Lucas the screenplay (with some improvements).
Meanwhile, drama regarding Ben’s disappearance is unfolding as Roger demands to know where his son is. Juliet pretends she has no idea what happened, that she turned her back for a moment and he was gone. Kate tries to reassure Roger which makes him very suspicious. Jack visits the LaFleur home that evening to let them know that Roger is quite irate and causing trouble so Sawyer thanks him for coming to let him know. As Jack leaves, Security Phil approaches and tells Sawyer they need to talk because he knows who kidnapped Ben — he has video proof. Sawyer invites Phil inside where he punches his lights out and instructs Juliet to get some rope.
As Miles and Hurley bring the van back to the garage, they get into an argument about fathers and whether it’s worth it for Miles to take the chance to get to know his. Miles disagrees, but as he walks through the Dharma living area he can see Chang inside his home, holding baby Miles, reading him a story and generally seeming like a loving father…the exact opposite of what he’s been told by his mother. Miles is very moved by this. The phone rings and Chang is apparently called to duty. He sees Miles outside and asks him to come along, he needs him to help greet some scientists coming back on the submarine. At the dock, Miles is helping people out of the sub and one of those people happens to be Faraday! He tells Miles it’s been a long time. Can’t wait to find out what he’s been up to!

And Hank from “Breaking Bad” was in this episode! Also, loved when Hurley was talking to Miles about changing his own diaper (as a baby). And re-writing Star Wars. Great!

Was the guy in the van who kidnapped Miles one of the new survivors from the Indian airplane crash on the hydra island? He asked Miles what lies in the statue’s shadow … he looked like the guy who is in the group around the big silver box on the beach, and they later ask Captain Frank the same question before they knock him out.

Yes, it was the same guy. Good catch. I didn’t realize at first that we had seen him already, but said to the Geekboy, “I bet he works with Ilana.”

I really hope the statue they’re all talking about is the giant colossus-type egyptian 4-toed thingy … I’ve been fascinated by what that could be ever since season 1!!
