Faraday and Miles

Daniel’s back, but does he have good news? Regretfully, I’ve just been unable to manage to watch the show in time to recap it for you all, and I know you must be dying to discuss. I’ll be back later to discuss it in the comments with you.

Good episode, sad ending (although I don’t think Daniel’s story is over). But I don’t understand a single thing about Eloise. Never did, understand even less now. Where was Daniel raised? Why doesn’t he have an accent? Was he on the island as a boy? What is Eloise’s damage, anyway? What is she trying to prevent or save or make sure happens? I honestly don’t understand anything about her motivation — whether that’s just my own inattention or an issue with the storyline, I don’t know. But I didn’t understand why Faraday said to her, “You knew this would happen and you sent me anyway.” How did she know? How does she know anything? How did he know she knows?

    Brain hurts.

    Also, Sawyer is stupid.

I would assume she knows because she always shot him? Maybe? Becuase if that always happened in her past, then her whole time raising Daniel off the island she would know that one day he would return to the island and get shot by her in 1977. And maybe that’s becuase if he wasn’t stopped he would have ended up detonating Jughead thus screwing up the course of events?

Just when i think I’ve wrapped my head around something though I realize I’ve just confused myself even more.

Half my theory so far came true about Daniel/Penny being brother and sister. My initial thought was that they were twins separated one living with each parent. It could still happen.

    Yay, Des!

Although when that doctor said, “This nurse will watch your son,” I was all, “NO PENNY IT’S A TRAP, HOLD ONTO THAT LITTLE CHAH-LIE!”

Seriously. Who would leave their child with random nurse and creepy old Eloise?

What Bianca said. My assumption about Eloise is that from that moment forward she makes the choice to presume that all time is set in stone. That she spends a good enough period of time learning about how this would come about and then assumes that since she can’t change her actions that she must do whatever’s necessary to insure it happens because doing the opposite wouldn’t matter anyway and then she’d be totally out of control. She chooses to take control of what she knows will happen and guide its path rather than live in a fear of what “might happen” if she doesn’t.

Time Travel gets complicated in this regard.

    I really enjoyed the episode.

I guess the part I’m missing is how Eloise learned about any of this to begin with.

And she specifically called her actions “sacrifice” — so is she sacrificing her own son to save the world, or to further her (and possibly Widmore’s) interests?

Perhaps to further “The Islands” interests.

I have no answers but can say that old Eloise’s eyes freak me out.

I kinda had a notion something would happen to Twitchy when he said to Jack just before barging in on the Others, anyone of us could still die.

Eloise has freaked me out since she first appeared a few seasons ago in Desmond’s back story. I can’t really figure out her motivation either. She certainly seemed like a bee-yotch to young Daniel, but I guess that’s because she knew he’d have to sacrifice himself. (Not sure I’m wrapping my head around that correctly?) It was creepy when she said “for the first time, I’m not sure what will happen next.” So for all this time, you have known what will happen? That’s a lot of blood on your hands.

My favorite scene last night was when everyone was back in Sawyer & Juliet’s cabin trying to figure out their next steps. I thought it was really well done, people trying to figure out where everyone else stood, and alliances shifting, highlighted by Juliet giving Kate the code to the sonic fence. I just thought that whole exchange was cool.

My favorite part was Hurley’s, “Like, Fonzie times?”

So, this raises an interesting question — what would you do if you gave birth to your son after you’d already killed him as an adult?

That might keep me up tonight.

This was seriously the most messed up thing I’ve ever seen. I love this show.
