Despar, you're totally right. The cop didn't die. My bad.

Michael: "Five by five." Awesome. :)

I agree with everyone that, whether or not it was a paradigm shift, this is the episode that makes me believe "Dollhouse" is five by five.

That's a sweet sumary of the episode that, indeed, led us to the big picture arc of the show.

but i don't think the cop Ballard repectively Echo shot is dead. Remember, before leaving the scene, she sais 'he will live'. At least as far as I remember.

I agree with the post and the other comments - this episode was the one that finally made it seem as if Doll House could do more than show the dolls trundling around in their PJs, suddenly morphing into Killer Barbies and then back again. The mole in the DollHouse that spoke through Echo was a good twist, and contrary to the post, Mellie being a sleeper active caught me off guard. Her reveal was awesome. I actually hit rewind and watched it again just to see what the heck happened, and why Hearn was lying facedown in a blink.

Having been a fan of Angel, I was expecting that Whedon would manipulate the central story into taking several twists around the main characters instead of being a straight up good-against-evil, but I didn't see the potential for that in the first few episodes. This one is a good start, and I hope they keep it going.

For what it's worth, ratings for Dollhouse were actually nudging up last week. But this week, between competing with the Battlestar Galactica finale and the NCAA Tournament, I'd be surprised if that trend continued. Although with BSG not on the air any more, I guess that could drive people to other sci-fi options on Friday night.

This episode really sold it for me too. I had been lukewarm but still watching because it took me a little while to get into Firefly too, but this really did it. it was also really packed - I thought it was almost over and went to fast forward through an ad and it was only 30 minutes in. Hopefully now that I'm into it it doesn't get canceled like Pushing Daisies and Life on Mars...

FANTASTIC episode. I was just blown away by how multi-layered it was and the reveal was just jaw-dropping. I'll admit it. I believed Joss' cock-and-bull story about how the actress who played The Active Known as November was recast as Melie and WASN'T an active. Blown away. I loved how the previous five episodes were all groundwork, building for this one episode. I'm even sympathetic to Mynor.

The man-on-the-street interviews were well constructed, too. I loved the casual little details in them. Mrs. Papercuts and I were talking about this episode all the way through Sunday. I'm very excited about the road ahead for the show now.

Seriously, I want to give Joss a big ol' kiss. But it would be nothing queeny, and I'd prefer that he wouldn't even remember it afterwards.
