WASABI BOMB!

The latest season of The Amazing Race started last night. A new twist added to the show eliminated a team right at the starting line.

It was a satisfying twist, too, because the team eliminated seemed super annoying. So long, Eric & Lisa!

The rest of the teams flew to Tokyo where they were immediately immersed in a Japanese game show. It was hilarious and chaotic. One member of the team had to eat a “wasabi bomb” in order to move to the next clue. I’ve never seen that much wasabi in my life! And one poor girl didn’t eat hers in the allotted two minutes and had to eat it again! Ack!

Anyway. As per tradition, here are my first impressions of the teams. Share your thoughts in the comments.

Meghan & Cheyne: Cheyne? These two won the first leg and seem like a typical, All-American couple. He pings my gaydar a little bit, but whatever.

Maria & Tiffany: Professional poker players pretending they work for the homeless. People are already onto them, though, because Tiffany was recognized at one of the airports by a poker fan. They seem to be aligning with Sam & Dan, but don’t realize these boys are gay.

Marcy & Ron: Our resident “older” couple. Marcy tends to get loud, frantic and weird.

Lance & Keri: Uh, I have literally no recollection of these two from last night at all.

Herbert & Nathaniel: If the editors play the Harlem Globetrotters theme EVERY TIME they’re on screen, it’s going to be a long f*cking season. Also, screaming “”Arriba, Arriba, Andele! Andele!” in a taxi in Japan? No.

Gary & Matt: A father/son team who are using the Race as a way to bond. They won the second leg. I like them so far!

Garrett & Jessica: Eliminated at the second leg. Thank god, because he was making me nervous.

Brian & Ericka: Judging from their performance during the duck task (which was AWESOME), these two are going to need to calm down a bit.

Eric & Lisa: Eliminated at the starting line, then congratulated themselves for “setting [the rest of the teams] free.” Um, okay.

Sam & Dan: Two cutie-pie brothers who both happen to be gay. I like them so far and enjoy that they’ll pretend to be straight in order to get girls to align with them. It’s a nice twist on the usual “boobie power” crap that some girls play on this show.

Zev & Justin: Two friends, one with Asperger’s Syndrome (Zev). So far I’m enjoying them, and I think it will be interesting to watch their relationship evolve. I’m also curious to see how Zev reacts in chaotic situations. So far he’s been great.

Mika & Canaan: I stopped caring about them the minute they said that God was going to help them win the Race. Although later on, didn’t Canaan tell the camera that he wanted to tear off Mika’s head? I’m pretty sure that’s not very Christian.

Lance is the lawyer. The lawyer with muscles! What more could he need?

My suggestion: less ego, more interesting personality.

I really can’t remember him, but perusing other boards tells me that he was kind of a douche? I guess I’ll pay better attention next week.

Ugh, Lance is the meathead lawyer/bodybuilder. The worst! I like the father & son team and Zev & Justin. I also think the Harlem Globetrotter guys are fun. What happened to all of the audience members who got lost on the way to the pit stop? Did they just leave them in the crowded city with no way home? Wasabi bomb!

Oh no! I wanted to start watching this this season and I missed the premiere! Duh. I’m going to see if we can watch it online. Boo.

I think you can watch over at CBS.com. FYI the first episode was a 2-hour premiere.

It never ceases to amaze me the people that go on this show to decide if they should get married/spend the rest of their lives together. I guess it makes sense on one level, but I tend to think if you’re still questioning it in the first place, it might be time to move on, Garrett and Jessica.

This show deserves next year’s Reality Show Emmy for the “herding ducks” task alone.
