Worst Foot Massage Ever
Monday, April 27, 2009 at 08:09am by freakgirlThis week on The Amazing Race, teams traveled to Beijing, where they were subjected to the torture of foot massages and swimming.
I must say that over the past few episodes, it looks like I’m now rooting for Tammy & Victor over Luke & Margie. All the crap from last week with Jen & Kisha sort of soured me on Luke and his mom. And watching how supportive Tammy & Victor are being with each other in comparison to how they started this Race is really nice. I still think Cara sucks, though, in case you were wondering.
So, anyway. This leg was pretty simple. Teams flew to Beijing. Their first Roadblock was enduring an incredibly painful foot massage. I was wincing the entire time. I love a gentle foot massage, but I’ve had reflexology done on my feet and it was AWFUL. Ouch. Tammy handled it like a real champ, though!
Next up was a Detour at the Olympic Stadium. Called “Sink” or “Swim,” teams had to either perform a synchronized jump off the diving board (heh, “sink/sync,” I just got that), or swim the 400-meter relay. They mentioned Michael Phelps so many times, I expected him to pop out of the water and hand teams their next clue. Both Tammy & Victor and Jen & Kisha chose “Sink,” as Tammy and Jen are weak swimmers. However, both teams ran into trouble. Tammy and Victor just could not get synched together — it looked really tough to master. Jen’s paralyzing fear of the water caused the sisters to switch Detours THREE times. I felt terrible for Jen, but I was impressed with how Kisha handled her younger sister. They eventually settled on “Swim,” when Kisha was able to coax Jen back into the water after the other teams were gone.
Also? The 400-meter looked EXHAUSTING. And double also? Everyone should know how to swim.
As teams headed toward Phil and the mat, Jaimie and Cara were in tears, wanting to get a first-place finish. To my delight, the leg ended up being a SuperLeg. When Phil told them, “You’re the first team to arrive” and not “You are team number one,” I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how they could have messed up. Then he pulled out the next clue and we were like O SNAP KEEP RACING, BITCHES.
And remember, everyone in China looks the same! And speaks Chinese!
Can’t wait until next week to see the looks on Kisha and Jen’s faces when they realize it’s not over yet.

Tammy and Victor are definitely the nicest team left. I still feel for Margie and Luke, though, because I don’t have any idea what has happened to Luke to make him so paranoid and he seems like more of a baby than a badass, and I thought it was funny that Margie sort of felt sorry for him and sort of was laughing that he got the painful foot massage. Also, Victor was a big tool several legs ago, making Tammy walk around that woods without any idea what he was doing. I think it’s easier to be sweet and good and kind when things are going your way. That said, I wouldn’t have any problem with any of the remaining teams winning except those wretched redheads, because the rest of them have all had their ups and downs and behaved accordingly. Except for Tammy – I can’t think of a time when she wasn’t really nice and sweet, although maybe I’m forgetting something!

My guess is what happened to Luke to make him paranoid is that he grew up hearing impaired. As the sister of a disabled brother, I know how awful people can be.
Victor was a huge tool during that Transylvania leg, but I think he’s really shown improvement. Last night they were doing terribly at the Sink task, but he never lost his temper with her.
Hoping the redheads don’t win, either. There’s never been an all-female team winner (right?) on TAR, and I’d rather it not be them

I still can’t tell the redheads apart, but am I mistaken that one of them seems nasty and the other seems nicer and somewhat embarrassed by the other? Maybe I’m projecting.
I still like Margie and Luke, although I think there are instances where Margie would be better served by telling Luke to suck it up and grow up. But it’s pretty easy to be the perfect parent with my ass parked on my couch. I find I’m better than most athletes from that position, too.
I agree on the learning to swim thing. I know a lot of people don’t like the water, but you never know when you’re going to need that skill. (And I’m not thinking of TAR detours, so much as an accident with your car/child/pet/etc. near a lake or river.)

Oh I meant I have NO idea, specifically, but I’m sure it was bad. . I am the sister of a disabled brother too and … well I know what you mean about people being awful, so I can’t even imagine, is what I meant. It also explains, for me, how Margie is with him and that she allows maybe a little too much for her son, because she feels like he deserves a break. I do, too.

Joanne, yeah, Margie’s behavior with him is completely understandable. Besides just being simply mother and son, those two appear to be incredibly close and dependent on each other.
Also, Jack, I agree that it’s only the one redhead that comes across as a bitch. The editing seems to take pains to show the other one’s discomfort when the one is sniping about people not speaking English or whatever.

The diving competition gave me a new appreciation for Victor.
