Those Thai Party Girls Were Cute!

I have an appointment this morning, so check out my brief thoughts on The Amazing Race after the jump.

  • Are Mark and Michael the most penalized racers in TAR history?
  • Did they actually think those trannies were real ladies?
  • And who knew about that bartering rule? Are racers given a rule book when they start the Race?
  • Poor Jen, knowing that she and Kisha needed to get their bags, yet deferring to her sister anyway.
  • Shocking — Jaime (right?) continues to yell at people in different countries for not speaking English. She is awful.
  • Luke and Margie ran a flawless leg, yay!
  • I seriously cannot believe people thought they could complete this leg without passports or identification. OR SHOES.
  • And I hate that Mark and Michael continue to race, while Mike and Mel were eliminated.
  • Please explain to me why bartering is a two-hour penalty, but last week’s two infractions only cost the brothers one hour.

Yeah it kinda makes no sense to me that hiding tools that the other racers might need to complete their leg costs a team 30 minutes but giving up a flashlight to pay for a cab costs 2 hours. I guess that must be in the rule book when you think about the times that other teams were desperately trying to find money to pay for cabs and never tried to give up their belongings in exchange…. like wasn’t it Uchenna & Joyce who ran out of money right outside the final mat? You would think Mark & Michael would have reread the rule book after last week’s two stupid penalties. But uh I guess not. I’d love to look through the rule book though and see what other obvious gems are in there.

I remember those college guys from last season (the ones I hated) tried to barter a pair of sneakers for cab fare. The cabbie got so annoyed he finally just let them go without payment and refused the shoes. So the boys didn’t get a penalty, even though they attempted to break the rules.

Or perhaps the rule is new this season?

I wonder if the show has gotten a bad reputation over the years by encouraging bartering instead of legitimate payment for rides. This seems like a new rule this year as I remember so many teams doing it in the past. They’ve also removed the “we’re taking all your money” part of the non-elimination leg penalties (although that happened a couple seasons ago, right?). My guess is somebody got a conscience and said, it’s pretty lame that we have “rich” Americans begging and bartering in countries with populations far worse off economically.

This felt like a really short and relatively easy leg. I’m so surprised that so many teams had so much trouble.

The 4 hour penalty seems out of whack. There’s no way a team could come back from that unless they bunch at the airport or at a office closed scenario. Those two need to go, though. They are serious cheaters. Last week was worse but still… Ugh.

I don’t remember teams bartering possessions for cab fare before. Do you remember any examples?

My theory on why they don’t allow bartering is that teams will come prepared with backpacks full of watches, old cellphones, glasses, whatever — which doesn’t seem fair at all.

If the brothers manage to snag a FF next week, they’ll make it. I’m ready for them to go, for sure.

Also, props to Josh Wolk at EW for noticing the same thing I did, with a hilarious take on it:

And now for something odd that I noticed that I wonder if anyone else did. When Jaime dashed to the boatyard for the Roadblock, I noticed that she was slightly…asymmetrical. How do I put this delicately: She had one headlight on? She was winking at me? One of her turkeys was done? Am I not making myself clear? Let’s just say that in the chest region, one side was popping out, the other wasn’t. Now, I had no intention of including such a gauche observation in my recap. (Though considering I’ve noted the testi-Phils in the past, I’ve proved myself to be an equal-opportunity observer of clothing-poking appendages.) But something odd happened that made me comment: All the way up until the moment when the cheerleaders jumped onto the boat with their backpacks, Jaime was mono-nipplitic. But when we cut back to the boat after it had embarked on its journey, there was suddenly a black smear on Jaime’s shirt that looked like a Playboy bunny, and it covered Mt. Nipplest, rendering it invisible. And that bunny remained there for the rest of the leg. It could have been a grease stain from her propeller work, and yet it appeared long after she’d finished that task. Was it strategically placed as a demure cover-up? What else could it have been? Maybe her right breast has similar rage issues as Jaime, and some foreign bra made it so angry that its nipple exploded.

The bartering penalty took me by surprise. I feel like people have bartered before, but maybe I’m just remembering the attempt to do it last year. I can live without Mike & Mark. They seem to be the annual “sucky racers who succeed in spite of themselves”. And I vote for , yes, they thought the trannies were ladies.

And honestly, if you leave your stuff (including your shoes) that far out of your sight at any point, well, you deserve whatever you get. Dumbasses.

The highlight for me was the preview for next week’s throwdown. BITCH!

I can’t think of any specific examples so maybe, like Jack, I’m just remembering the attempt last year (although I do distinctly remember the concerns about running out of money on previous seasons so maybe there were some instances where this happened).

I totally missed the one angry nipple and I think I deleted this off the DVR. CBS.com does have the episodes though, doesn’t it?

Yeah, you can watch the angry nipple on CBS.com.

I read somewhere else today (TARflies, maybe) that the rule is you can’t trade any possessions you’ve brought, but you can barter any stuff you’ve picked up along the Race.

“If the brothers manage to snag a FF next week, they’ll make it. I’m ready for them to go, for sure.”

Fortunately, the only Fast Forward this season was on Mel & Mike’s final leg, and it was unaired since no one took it.

The bartering penalties were completely fair. Victoria (of Brad & Victoria, of course) posted on Survivor Sucks, saying it was definitely forbidden. They were informed of that very thing (among all others) before the race, so she was surprised to see them intentionally break it. You can SELL your possessions for money, but not use them to pay off cab fares or bus fares.

How do you know there’s only one FF in this Race? I remember there being more than one in previous seasons.
