That’s a Good Way to Catch Swine Flu

And the winners of The Amazing Race 14 are…

Congratulations to Tammy & Victor, and especially to Tammy, who may be the first TAR winner to cross the finish line without pants!

The last leg of the Race took place in Hawaii. No Detour, though, right? Was there one that was cut, I wonder?

The first task involved prepping a pig for a traditional roast and then carrying it down the beach. Both Tammy & Victor and Cara & Jaime decided to lug the 145-lb carcass along instead of carrying the stick on their shoulders like Margie & Luke. This decision catapulted Margie & Luke into the lead. Jaime was completely horrible to Cara during this task, screaming at her to hurry up. Tammy was also similarly slow, but Victor seemed to try very hard not to lose his temper. He’s come a long way, don’t you think?

The next task had the teams driving a jet ski to a field of buoys (Baba-Booey!) and locate a clue tied to a random buoy. Margie & Luke continued their huge lead to the last task, a Roadblock. The Roadblock was digging through a giant pile of surfboards to find ones decorated with a task they completed from the first leg all the way to the last (11 in total). Luke was awesome and got all but the last two up quickly. Then he derailed and couldn’t find the last one, and the other two teams soon caught up. Even Jaime and Cara, who felt the wrath of taxicab karma like we’ve never seen before, caught up. Luckily Jaime also got derailed. As Victor placed his last surfboard and ran off with Tammy, Jaime and Luke worked together to finish. Jaime completed the Roadblock first, then Luke.

Tammy & Victor crossed the finish line to win. Yay for them! Jaime and Cara came in second, with an emotional Luke and Margie coming in third.

A really fun season, overall. What did you guys think?

I did not intend to cry, but when Margie was too affected by Luke’s answer to translate what he had said about his mom, I had to have a few sniffles. Great season, TAR.

I give this season a B. Weren’t a lot of truly compelling teams (Margie and Luke probably came closest). But, no Jonathan and Victorias either (I think I cut Jamie some slack on the pig thing – you can bet Jen would have peed in her pants rather than run into a port-a-john if Jamie had been her teammate). I liked the move away from airport drama, and they seemed to do the non-elim legs better. They needed some more male eye candy.

I thought Mel and Mike White were pretty compelling. Interesting to watch, anyway.

The eye candy aspect is the least interesting thing to me about TAR (with the exception of my darling Phil, of course). Glad I wasn’t on this season — there were certainly a lot of bathing suits and skintight outfits.

Ah — just found out from TARCon people that there was a Detour in that last leg. It was either the pig task or learning to surf and staying up for 15 seconds.

Yikes – I forgot about Mike and Mel. Good point about them.

Overall I liked this season. I’m sorry to say Luke was really bugging me at the end, so I was glad to see Tammy and Victor win.

I have to give the last Roadblock participants credit though. I would never do well remembering all the tasks, and it seemed particularly difficult last night. Some of those pictures on the surfboards were tough to recognize…

PLUS… This season gets an “A” if for no other reason than they put the Nose Flute Pit-stop guy on a surfboard!
