The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Leg
Sunday, December 23, 2007 at 09:20pm by freakgirlThere will be no screencaps for this episode, as tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I simply don’t have the time. Sorry. Bygones! We’ll talk about how the executive producer of TAR is a lying liar after the jump.
So, even though they put out press alerts to announce that they were dropping non-elimination legs from the Race, tonight ended in a non-elimination leg. WTF?
Not that I’m arguing…if ever I had wanted a leg to be a non-elim, it surely was this one.
First things first, though. This leg of the Race took place in Italy, and also featured our first Fast-Forward. And what an evil FF it was! To earn it, the team would have to get tattooed. As soon as Nick and Gramps decided to take the Fast Forward, I was thrilled, knowing that they would totally do it. And they did! Now they have matching “FF” tattoos on their arms. Too cute. I loved when Nick asked what “FF” stood for.
TK and Rachel had the worst leg imaginable, due to oversights and plain bad luck. Leaving a clue behind, TK apparently forgetting how to see, their flat tire…these two never got cross with each other. I really like watching them and I’m starting to want them to win.
Kynt & Vyxsyn also had a horrible leg, where a combo of a closed road and fatigue got them lost and completely frustrated. Vyx really could use a nice nap. They ended up on the mat in 5th place, right after TK & Rachel (a miracle they finished this leg at all). I was so sad, knowing we were going to lose our sparkly pink Goths. But…Phil popped out with a non-elimination leg. Why would they lie and tell us there weren’t going to be any? I do not understand. Regardless, I’m glad everyone is still here.
And next week we get a new feature called “Speed Bump.” At any point during the next leg, Kynt & Vyxsyn will be forced to complete a task before being allowed to move on in the Race. This could be interesting.
As for the others, Nate & Jen managed to not act like total assholes, but Ron was not so lucky. FREE CHRISTINA!

I thought it was an excellent surprise and I figured the producers don’t owe us the truth, really. I too was really happy for K&V, as I thought they were goners.
I thought TK was kind of a dick, actually, when he told Rachel about a million times that it probably meant they were out of the race when she lost the clue. I thought she was very gracious (and much less of a bitch than I am) to not remind HIM that if he couldn’t find the big word that everyone else could find, that also would mean they were out of the race. Overall, I am cheering for them too though.
I kind of felt like they were trying to make Ron into more of a villain than he is last night. I mean, if Christina had asked me about the FF that many times, I might have snapped too. Plus when they showed the scenes from next week they said something like “Ron is back to his EVIL ways” and it shows a clip of him saying “don’t be stingy with the glue” or something! Fighting words?
I wondered if Nick and Grandpa are Jewish and maybe that was the hangup with the tattoo? It just seemed so out of character for Grandpa, who was seemingly done *everything* to worry about a tiny tattoo otherwise.

RE: Nate and Jen
It’s easy to be nice when things are going swimmingly, eh?
I was SO happy to hear Phil give the non-elimination tidings of comfort and joy.
Did you notice that Vyxsyn seemed to be helping Kynt along a few times? Like she practically pulled him up those last few steps at the mat and at other times during this leg?
Oh, yeah, and FIRENZA! Love. I was at the Boboli Gardens, which were beautiful, but would have been that much better with some Phil.

Finally the race goes to city I’ve travelled recently (Florence), and where do they go? The only place I never got to! Biboli Gardens ! (It was tooooo many euros for my wallet)
I guess on the bright side, now I know what it looks like, so mystery solved.
I thought TK and Rachel held it together very well, despite all the obstacles. Sure they got a bit frustrated with themselves, but neither of them really blew up at the other.

oops, my bad.. Boboli. (FirenzE Michael…).
My friend in Italy would have been cringing at all the “Graz-ees”. She kept beating into my head that it’s Gratz zee eh.
anyway, go TK/Rach, Go team goth!

Michael, I did notice when Vyx seemed to yank Kynt up those stairs, with one arm, like one would do to a toddler. So funny.
I want Vyx to do my makeup, just one time.

Kynt was such a punk in the car when Vyxsin wouldn’t stop. He just seemed so ridiculous.
I liked this leg and was psyched to see a non-elim and a new twist.
Since this was a mandatory rest period, I assumed there was a heavy amount of interviews happening in between legs and Nate & Jen probably realized they must look like total assholes based on the questions they were getting asked and tried to curtail some of that.
Lovely to know there is another non-elim leg which must happen 2 episodes from now which would be the cut to 3 teams and lead into the finale otherwise.

FG, it’s funny you say that about the makeup – I was thinking how rough both K & V looked but it’s because they both looked *fresh as daisies* when they left for the leg, giant blue eyeshadow on and braids all perfect. I’m so glad they’re still in it.

I watched the last 2 episodes with my family who have never seen the show.
My sister nailed Michael’s point about Jenny – sure is easy to be nice when things are going well.
My nephews and niece screamed in horror every time the pink Goths showed up.

I disagree with the TK/Rachel not getting cross with each other. I think they were totally pissed at each other. I find their non-fighting bogus. Or they’re robots. I’m a cynic and I just don’t believe that people don’t fight.
Ron has, at this point, become a cartoon character or the star of a sit-com. I’m so sorry that it’s hard on Christina because she’s such a sweetie, but man, every time Ron goes off it cracks my shit right up. He’s the most un-self-aware person I’ve ever seen.

Aw, poor Goths. I really hope they can jump back soon.
Nathan & Jennifer were only calm because things were going well for them. Had things gone differently, they’d have been screaming their heads off at each other again.
