And The Winning Team Is…

Monday, December 08, 2008 at 07:39am by freakgirl

Nick and Starr take it all! Woot! For a while there, I thought Starr might collapse into a hyperventilating bundle of nerves, but she managed just fine.

The entire last leg took place in Portland, Oregon. Teams had to climb a tree, fly down a zipline, and perform a Concentration-style game that tested their memory of the previous legs of the race. Nick and Starr managed to stay one step ahead of Ken and Tina to win it all. Dandrew were never even an issue, and my guess is that they didn’t even finish the Concentration game.

So, congratulations to Nick and Starr!

The Amazing Race 14 will actually be premiering in January, I believe, so I’ll see you guys then.

That was a lackluster finale, wasn’t it? I was so wishing Toni & Dallas were still in it. Did you notice they weren’t there? I read they were still stuck in Russia due to Dallas losing their passports.

A new season is starting next month already? I don’t think they’ve ever been that close together!

I so wanted the producers to cut to a scene of Toni & Dallas at the end, just sitting quietly in the Russian airport, looking at their watches.

Me too, Geekboy! Only with a “Meanwhile, back in Russia…” preceding it

ha ha ha re: toni & dallas. That would’ve been awesome.

Am I the only one who thinks Ken & Tina really didn’t resolve much over the course of the race? The emotion of the finish notwithstanding they weren’t exactly more loving or understanding of each other at the end than at the beginning.

I really thought I was going to dislike Nick at the beginning of the race but he seemed to have so much fun. He smiled the entire time.

And now, I want to go to Portland.

I told the geekboy I want to visit Portland now, too. And I was also impressed by Nick’s endless grin throughout the last leg.

Whatever’s going on with Ken and Tina, I got a little verklempt at the end when Ken pulled out their rings. And Phil wiped away a tear, too.

Re: Ken & Tina – I hope she watches the show and realizes what a bitch she was the entire race.

I thought that Ken was amazingly nice and great to Tina, considering the way she yelled at him while he was doing tasks and then barked at him to shut up while she was going. She doesn’t have many redeeming qualities, it seems, but I too got a little misty when he pulled out those rings. I always cry at this damned finale, whether I like the winners or not!

I didn’t think I could like Nick more, then I checked out his website (www.nickspangler.com) (Yes, that means his sister is Starr Spangler). Adorable! So sweet and a great voice. And apparently dating a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. I did NOT see that coming.

Yeah, I’m in the camp of Ken and Tina not really having solved anything. They (esp Tina) spent more time harping at each other instead of listening and communicating, so I’m not sure how that would have solved anything. And I didn’t really care a bit about the rings at the end, so maybe I just have a heart of stone. Unless it involves puppies.

While I live under the delusion that I would be totally awesome in the race, I think the hardest thing they do is that final challenge – having to remember all their previous roadblocks, pitstops, etc. It’s probably easier for them having lived through them all, and all within the last 2-3 weeks, vs. the 2-3 months of viewing the race, but I would still probably be trailing Dandrew at that task.

I was wondering last night if the racers journal while they’re racing. I imagine some do…I mean, that plane ride from Russia to Oregon surely gave them a ton of time to study.

Yeah I think it would be way easier to remember having actually lived it and done the tasks. Plus, they might keep the clues so that would be something easy to study. I would have loved to see Dandrew work on that task. I can’t imagine it was quick for them.

I also agree that Ken & Tina seemingly didn’t resolve anything but maybe for them, just having to work together and get through tasks is a huge accomplishment. Obviously I have no idea what happened to cause them to separate but the day-to-day events on the race require a level of trust in your partner, good communication skills, cooperation… and maybe they were lacking these fundamental things.
