Blues For Sister Someone

Monday, May 01, 2006 at 09:20am by freakgirl

God, it seems like years since the last time we saw Grey’s Anatomy, huh? I don’t even know where to start. Well, Denny’s still alive, so there’s that. His and Izzie’s little “thing” has become public knowledge, though, and I’m sure this will all work out quite well. EXCEPT THAT IT WON’T. How can you not love Denny, though? Meredith decides to start dating her vet, and their first date is birthing a horse together. Romantic! Addison gets Alex for the day, and he ends up causing a husband to bring a giant lawsuit against the Addison and the hospital. I’m really not 100% sure why Alex felt so strongly about the whole “don’t tell my husband you’re tying my tubes” thing, unless he’s really THAT anti-woman. Izzie and George make up, George finally has a decent haircut, and Burke loses his personal musical hero on the operating table.

While I agree Karev’s a bit of a misogynist ass (and somewhat inconsistantly written as such), what I got out of that subplot was a whole ‘nother view–Catholic Lady had a bad marriage. She didn’t want to tell her husband the truth and really work on coming to some agreement. She wanted to make unilateral decisions and lie and use the doctors to help her do that. In the end, was it going to things okay by avoiding pregnancy? No. It was just a sign of deeper trouble.

I hate fake religious discussions on tv, but I really think this was a plot where you could have used more religious context about the nature of marriage, responsibility, expiation of sin, and so forth. But that’s my 2nd Gen Bad Catholic self talking.

Yuck. I don’t like Alex. He’s so much of a My Way Or The Highway person, I think.

Poor Dr. Burke. I felt really sad for him, and Cristina trying to comfort him was almost equally as sad.

I’m glad George is back to being George. He’s kind of awkward as Angry George.

Who else thought the seizure lady was going to go into a seizure and choke on one of the doughnuts?

Why did seizure lady look so familiar to me? I couldn’t find her listed on the episode cast on imdb.com. Help?

    Jayne Brook:

She used to be on Chicago Hope. She was also in the fine film “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.”

God, how I’ve missed this show! I’m so glad it won’t be in repeats for the rest of the season. (that’s what I heard)

Alex ~ There must be some backstory that we don’t know about that causes him to be so hateful towards women. I thought it was funny that Alex was the one with a problem with what Addison was doing. Mr. Morally Flexible. Hm. Anyway, looks like he messed with the wrong doctor, Addison seems like she will turn Alex into her bitch from now on.

Denny ~ I loooove Denny. Could he be more charming? That story will not end well, I agree. “You’re tall” just killed me, how sweet.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvved Derek’s reaction to Meredith coming down the stairs. Serves you right Derek, going back to your wife and leaving Mere – your turn to be jealous for a while.

Burke and Christina – Every episode these 2 surprise me. I loved their scene together in the breakroom. Burke missing his buddy George was one of the funniest little stories.

I’m loving the new George with Dr. Torres!

Chris “frickin’ hot” O’Donnell. Wow. Good choice there, Shonda. Damn. I really can’t say anything more deep than that right now. I think he and Ellen Pompeo have really good chemistry. I hope he’s on for a while!

    Hee hee, Soosan!

I just couldn’t think of any other way to describe my reaction to him last night.

I was so irked at the shoddy way the Catholic wife storyline was told. I kept waiting for there to at least be some discussion about how regardless of what her husband thinks/believes/wants, those fallopian tubes were HERS and if she wanted to tie them, then she should have been able to do that by whatever means necessary. And I disagree that they had a bad marriage – I think the wife understood that his blind faith wouldn’t allow him to accept anything not mandated by an 80 year-old virgin wearing a dress & funny hat and she also realized that the rhythm method was killing her and her marriage.

Further, because Alex assisted on the surgery, he opened himself up to liability, so suggesting the husband sue rather than telling him that he needed to discuss the situation with his wife’s doctor was really, really stupid. I can’t decide whether he did it because he couldn’t stand the thought of a woman making a decision regarding her own reproductive capacity without the consent of her husband or whether he was just pissed that Addison made him work with her after he told her he doesn’t “do vagina, professionally.” Regardless, I can’t stand the character and eagerly await the day when a helicopter falls on him in the ambulance bay.

    Nicely done Maddie!

I finally saw the whole cuteness behind Denny this past episode too. The hug clinched it for me.

The only thing Addison can be sued for is for falsifying her record-keeping. The husband has no say in what was done. If I remember right, the woman said she’d pay for the tubal ligation out of pocket. Surprised she’d go so far as to alter her records, considering that the husband wouldn’t really see those without his wife knowing it first. Or am I missing something?

Addison probably knew what she was going to do ahead of time, so she should have kicked him off of the case. But, then again, there wouldn’t be a story.

And isn’t Denny great! I don’t know what makes him so charming, but he really is!

She was also the abused mom in “Kindergarten Cop”. Oh yeah!

Loved last night’s ep. I’d almost forgotten how much I get into the show. And Meredith wasn’t annoying! I enjoyed her scenes w/McVetty? McDreamyVet? McVet? Chris McD.

Michael, I was thinking that she didn’t want the woman to have to hand over all that money she’d saved up when a quick “slip” in the OR could fix the problem.

Heather, well-said. Why didn’t the issue of CHOICE come up? Perhaps it will be revisited in future episodes? I didn’t get a sense at all that there was anything wrong with their marriage; in fact, although it was kind of a clunky storyline, I sort of got the feeling that she was willing to go to any length to a) save herself and her family from the depression she was sure to lapse into; and b) protect her husband from having to make a choice between his wife and his faith. I thought Alex was asking if she was being abused because he can’t even imagine a woman in her right mind who would want to voluntarily stop giving birth.

I have been trying to give Alex the benefit of the doubt, but I am sick of him. He needs some redemption or some comeuppance, and quick. And having to work OB-GYN is NOT comeuppance. If you’re so scared of vagina, jackass, then maybe you shouldn’t be a doctor. Grrrr.

I missed last nights episode and I don’t want to join a paid service with an annual membership, just want to watch the one I missed. A few weeks ago I watched one I missed – for free – but didn’t bookmark the site. Thanks for any help!!!

Regarding Addison being sued–since the patient won’t admit that she consented to the procedure, isn’t Addison screwed? That is, unless jerkwad will also testify that the patient requested the procedure.

I guess they also have to prove that she tied the tubes on purpose and not to correct a complication. The other doctors seemed to suggest that the complication story was obvious bullshit. Anyway, it seemed to me at the end that she really was in big trouble. She just can’t prove anything.

OK, I watched again and I must have fallen asleep because I missed the part where Alex tells the husband…..oh, and the part where the wife refuses to back up Addison. Anyone see the insomnia/not insomnia episode of “House”?

I still think a lawsuit is shaky. The tubal ligation was obviously not a “complication”. It was intentional. Why on earth would Addison perform it unless she was requested to do it? I don’t think she has to worry about a lawsuit so much as the state medical board because she won’t have a signed release for that procedure and no documentation of the procedure in the file.

Michael, I agree. A lawyer would have to prove that Addison is some sort of crazy going around sterilizing women without their consent. (However, I could see some sort of courtroom drama bringing in Addison’s personal life–contrasting her with the mother.) But yeah, the ethics of covering up the procedure should be brought into question. As someone earlier said, it should have been recorded in the chart. I know the woman was worried about the insurance company sending statements to her husband, but if Addison were doing the procedure for free (or however it was paid for), why would it end up with the insurance company? The mysteries of medical billing once again prove to be beyond my comprehension…
