Meditations in an Emergency

Last night’s Mad Men season finale was set during the Cuban missile crisis, and it seemed all the characters were behaving as if it were their last day on earth. People took a stand, got right with God, prepared for the worst and, in the Drapers’ case, declared a ceasefire.

This week’s Mad Men — and remember, next week is the season finale — was intense. We got a real glimpse of Dick Whitman, found out more about our mystery woman and saw Peggy come into her own at work. Betty starts to grow up, but not before reminding me how awful she can be. What are your thoughts about the bleeding thing? Period? Miscarriage? Something else? Lastly…Joan. Oh, Joan. Probably one of the most disturbing scenes of television I’ve seen in a long, long time. Awful.

Regular MM blogger Michael is tie-tie from running the Chicago Marathon on Sunday (we are so proud of you!). Talk about this week’s Mad Men in the comments. WTF, Don Draper? Really? Also — Peggy got herself a fairy godfather! And Duck…oh, Duck.
Also, I highly recommend reading Alan Sepinwall’s weekly thoughts on the show. As the geekboy said last night, it’s like reading a fascinating term paper about every episode.

Unfortunately, Michael is unable to post about Mad Men this week (he’s training for a marathon, ya’ll!). But feel free to discuss this episode in the comments. Um, the scene between Betty and her father? AWKWARD.

Wow. Fantastic episode, huh? Lots happening on many fronts. Speaking of fronts, Joan’s shoulders are practically raw from holding up hers. Let’s get to it, shall we? Read the rest of this entry »
